The Sierra Club

The Sierra Club is an environmental organization headquartered in San Francisco, California. It began in 1892 by John Muir, a Scottish-American preservationist, who became the first President.

"So extraordinary is Nature with her choicest treasures, spending plant beauty as she spends sunshine, pouring it forth into land and sea, garden and desert. And so the beauty of lilies falls on angels and men, bears and squirrels, wolves and sheep, birds and bees.” — John Muir, 1911"

Today, this organization is the nation’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization — with more than two million members and supporters!

Their accomplishments include: protecting millions of acres of wilderness, helping to pass the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act. Lately, their mission has been influencing the nation to leave dirty fossil fuels behind because it is harmful to our climate.

The Sierra Club has started the #readyfor100 campaign and the purpose is to urge local and national leadership to commit to 100% clean energy. If you wanted to get involved, all you need to do is alert your local government about the importance of leaving fossil fuel behind.
