5. DVD Adaptations

We know, we know: the book is better. (That’s not always the case, but that argument would take forever.) However, that doesn’t mean a bibliophile doesn’t enjoy sitting back, relaxing, and watching an adaptation of a favorite book series to pick out the differences.

Two of the biggest adaptations have multiple seasons ready for purchase.  Outlander has two seasons available on DVD now. Game of Thrones just dropped its Season 6 box set. A historical fiction fan who likes Outlander may also enjoy The White Queen from Starz. Alternatively, you may want to consider the new adaptation of Poldark  from the BBC and PBS. Actually, PBS shows are usually a good choice anyway.

However, your booklover might prefer something a bit more subtle. For your Shakespearean who can rattle off a sonnet or a soliloquy at will, try The Hollow Crown, which has the bonus of starring Tom Hiddleston and Jeremy Irons; The Wars of the Roses sequel series switches in Benedict Cumberbatch as Richard III.

A mystery fan might enjoy Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries or the excellent BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, which includes Charles Dance and Aidan Turner in its cast.

Drop some hints here and there to see what your bibliophile has been watching or reading lately, and then look for an adaptation.
