Holly Golightly Meets Paul Varjak

Paul Varjak and Holly Golightly are not that different. They are two people with goals in mind but with no idea how to go about making those goals realities. So they sell themselves in weird ways to get money to continue to live lies of a life they think they want.

For Paul, he sleeps with 2E and she provides him with an apartment and money to keep writing his next great novel. So when he arrives at his new apartment and realizes he doesn’t have his front door key, he fatefully rings Holly Golightly’s apartment.

When Holly comes to the door, she leaves her ear plugs on and Paul is talking to her, introducing himself, and trying to get to know his neighbor and she doesn’t remove them until he has already spoken for five minutes.

She invites him into her apartment and she talks about the mean reds and gives Paul a lot of information about herself within the first few moments of their friendship. It is a great introduction scene because we’re learning about Holly just as Paul is. We’ve only seen a glimpse of her before he does and she explains why she goes to Tiffany’s to make herself feel happy.
