Paul Tells Holly He Loves Her in the Library

After Paul and Holly sleep together, Paul breaks up with 2E. She isn’t exactly nice about the end of their relationship and writes him a big check to take Holly on a vacation to get her out of his system. He angrily then goes searching for her and when he can’t find her, he goes to the library and surprisingly finds her there.

She is reading up on Brazil and informs Paul that she is going to marry Jose and live the life she’s always dreamed of. Paul tells her that he loves her and that she belongs to him. Though it may have been romantic back then, in today’s day and age it is a little out of date.

The scene is iconic and amazing and you see how much Paul cares about her but the fact that he thinks Holly belongs to him is a little misogynistic. He wants Holly the way he wants her and doesn’t really understand her yet. So for him to say she belongs to him doesn’t look good on Paul.

But the scene is great because it spawned a meme. When Paul tells Holly that he loves her, she just stares at him and doesn’t say anything back.
