Forget what’s Heidi’s wearing–let talk about that hairdo, and the choice to make her look like she’s sporting a semi punk look with a faux shaved on one side look. Yaya? Nay? I’m personally not a fan. Zac Posen and Nina Garcia are both in residence. Tonight’s guest judge is Shiri Appleby, star of Lifetime’s only other critically acclaimed series, UNReal. Heidi insists the AnthonyRyan Rule™ is still in effect, even if the Tim Gunn Save™ is long used up. There is no more Mushy Middle.

Roberi: Domo arigato Mrs Roboto! Domo! The mask is a little Maison Martin Margiela, back when they still had the Martin in the name, but still dramatic. Heidi loves the futuristic sexiness of it, and the “veil” as she calls it.

Rik: If this dress were a kitchen on HGTV, in 20 years designers would walk in and say “so 2010.” Thankfully it is not 20 years in the future, so this look is still on trend for this decade. The judges judge it accordingly. Heidi goes so far as to say on a red carpet people would think these was a dress aspiring to be kitchen tiling, and not actually subway tile.

Erin: The yellowest tomato cage in the garden. The bees will be thrilled. That being said the top is really awesome visually, and despite my snark, she deserves to be in the top for it. it is quite possibly the most avant garde piece I’ve seen hit the runway in many a season of ProjRun. Shiri has no idea why she likes this, but she does. Nina is over the moon that the Erin she’s been waiting to show up is finally here. So much so, they give her the win.

Mah-Jing: I love the coral metal pieces on the dress. I don’t care if the dress itself is super simple and needs straps like whoa. The judges do though. They agree the copper pieces are gorgeous, but they’re not mixed with the denim, just sitting on top of it as decor.

Laurence: I love the detailing, but it’s not reading from afar as much more than a little black dress. Heidi loves it so much…but why in black? Suddenly the entire panel is insisting that black is yesterday’s news and something that people who want to fade into the background wear and bright colors are the new black.

Cornelius: I can’t get past the penis tubing. And the rainbow stripes are a whole lot of nothing. They’re like a ultra simply bit of subway mapping. Nina politely calls the vacuum tubes a cliche. Zac points out that the details on the dress are all Cornelius’ go-tos, especially the cowl neck.

There seems to be an urge to defend Cornelius, despite his absolutely terrible sci-fi cliche of a dress, but that seems to stem from him being Tim’s Save as well. With Mah-Jing seemingly obviously safe, that would mean sending Laurence home instead of Cornelius, which seems like a complete travesty. But then they send Laurence to safety with Rik and Roberi….and Cornelius is *still* safe. Meaning Mah-Jing is out. A different sort of total travesty that.

Tomorrow we will review Mah-Jing’s NYFW line for those who are interested in the dummy collection he presented.
