Jud and Prudie Paynter, No Longer Poldark Servants

Actually, this all starts in Demelza. Jud and Prudie get booted out of Nampara, but in the show, they show up after an episode or so, apparently reformed and ready to be the occasional comic relief. As of the end of Warleggan, they don’t actually come back to Nampara. Instead, Jud starts working for the smuggler Trencrom, and Prudie gets visits from her old mistress and just generally hangs around in the background, kind of like how Jeremy does in the show.

This also changes the circumstances of Jud’s not-quite funeral. Since he and Prudie don’t work for Ross any longer, she holds the wake at a local reverend’s house. She does still spend his money on new black mourning clothes, though.

Jud shows up more often than his common-law wife does, since he often carries messages back and forth between his new boss and his old one for smuggling purposes.

Instead, Ross and Demelza employ John and Jane Gimlett, who seem like far more loyal and steadfast servants and also just hang around in the background. Occasionally they get some things, or they make comments or helpfully tell Ross and Demelza about Francis’ horse being in the Nampara stables when he should have left hours ago.
