The Riot
Remember what we just discussed about the Poldark season finale adding stuff in? This is another prime example. Jud and his fellow miners do not storm Trenwith at all in Warleggan. What happens is that Ross returns to Trenwith after he finds out about George’s new property rules and how they’ve hurt Demelza.
Our still-technically-a-protagonist then drops a nasty threat. Should George not try his very hardest to live peaceably next to his enemy, said enemy will happily incite a riot among the miners. It turns out that there are a lot more of them than there are Warleggan servants.
Bit different from TV Ross riding in with a pistol aimed in the air and delivering a verbal smackdown to George, no? However, Poldark puts Ross in a better light (not that he deserves it) by letting him swoop in to save the day. It also gives Demelza a chance to show off her own attempts at peacemaking by even bothering to warn the Warleggans at all.
Finally, it kicks off the Ross and Demelza reconciliation. Who wouldn’t enjoy riding double off into the shadows after saving your worst enemy from his own stupidity?
That wraps up 10 of the biggest changes between Poldark and its source material in Season 2. Presumably, Season 3 will continue the tradition of adapting 2 novels. It has also already started filming.
