Six reasons why Disney’s latest animated offering is a delightful story of feminine determination that everyone should see this weekend.

As a Disney fanatic, I’m always on top of what the House of Mouse is preparing. Alongside your turkey and stuffing, be sure to save room for Disney’s latest, Moana.

Moana (voiced by Auli’i Carvalho) is the daughter of the chieftain, forced to leave her island to save it from destruction. Alongside the Polynesian demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson), the young girl must combat a series of monsters and restore the famed Heart of Te Fiti. Overall, Disney’s latest is gorgeous to look at, with loveable characters. Moana is another feisty heroine ladies will embrace with open arms. It’s far from recreating the success of Frozen, though depending on whether you love the Ice Queen or not could be a good thing. If you have young children, they’re already talking your ear off to hit the theaters for this.

The story suffers from some tonal inconsistencies and it cannibalizes a lot of previous Disney films, but it’s hard to ignore the richly animated tropical settings, mythic storytelling and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s songs. Here are six reasons why you should take your family to see Moana this Thanksgiving!
