Game Change

This one had to be added to the list because if you’re celebrating Thanksgiving with your family this year and you’re not absolutely terrified at just the thought of the conversation turning political, you are perhaps qualified to be our next President on the basis of valor alone. This 2012 movie focused on exactly what went wrong during the 2008 presidential election, from the inside out. Based on a book written by political journalists (who, it should be noted, were devoted to fact-checking and only willing to publish verifiable information), this movie gives us all the dirty campaign details as well as the personal trials and tribulations of not only the candidates, but their staff.

Despite the valid criticism and truly amazing SNL material that focused heavily on her, the movie gives us an inside look not only into the myriad ways in which the choice of Palin was a mistake made by higher-ups, but exactly why she failed. Her ignorance was known from the beginning, as were her unwillingness to compromise and her total lack of political tact. So, why would they choose her? And why would they then attempt to blame her- a woman who never tried to hide these shortcomings from the McCain team upon being vetted- for losing the election when it was the idea of the campaign to bring her on board in the first place? And, most importantly, is there a way we can give Julianne Moore 1,000 awards a year for her portrayal of Governor Palin????

Especially avoid if: DO I REALLY HAVE TO TELL YOU?!?!?! ELECTION. POLITICS. OVERT SEXISM THAT IS SOMEHOW DENIED BY ALL INVOLVED. WHITE MEN RUINING THINGS, THEN WONDERING HOW THEY GOT RUINED. TAKE YOUR PICK!!!!!!
