27. Victor Salazar- Fear the Walking Dead

Fear the Waling Dead in it of itself has become a leader in diversity this season (season 2). Telling the story of what happened before Rick Grimes woke up from his coma, it’s mixing apocalyptic devastation with that of a dramatic family dynamic. Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) is a character who’s introduced in the middle of season 1. He’s a character who’s mysterious, cunning, sharp, and witty. He has a way with words that’s put him in the successful position he’s in.

In season 2, we learn that he’s in love with Thomas Abigail, making Strand the first openly gay character on the show. Domingo was pleased with how the “reveal” of his character being gay came to be- “I even wondered, ‘Is that a big reveal?’ Because I think if we’re talking about his true nature, well, why wouldn’t someone think that he could’ve been with a man? Why not? Should something [about him] tip them off or not? Because I think in the world, there are no tip-offs. People are people. You find out more as they reveal to you.

It wasn’t a big reveal at all. It just became part of the plot line, and Domingo was happy about that.
