1. Alex Parrish- Quantico
Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra) grew up with an alcoholic and abusive father and a mother who constantly tried to hide her from her dad’s past. When Alex was a child, her dad was killed after him and her mom got into a bad fight. She’s sent to India to live with her extended family.
During the first season of Quantico, we find out that Alex was actually the one who killed her father. Her goal in life becomes getting into the FBI and protecting the country. She faces incredible obstacles as someone whose father has previously been an agent, and also because she is of foreign decent and lived in India for awhile. But this never stops her. She overcomes criticism, and becomes the top student in Quantico. The show itself gives such an interesting look at this country and how judgment can be deadly. Each person in her class at Quantico has something to hide and through season 1, you realize everything’s not what it seems.
In a recent interview with Complex, she points out of film in other countries is incredibly diverse, where film in America is not.
“Art should not be bound by barriers or language. The Hindi film industry is a testament to that. We speak only Hindi, but we premiere in Germany and Japan. Our films do phenomenally well there. We transcend the barriers of language and culture. We welcome you in. I think that’s what art should be, and I hope America reaches that place.”
Us too, Chopra. Us too.
