16. Harlee Santos- Shades of Blue

Harlee Santos (Jennifer Lopez) is an NYPD detective and a single mother who’s dealing with too many personal problems to count. Shades of Blue, now onto its second season, premiered on January 7, 2016 on NBC. Detective Santos had an abusive husband who she had a child with, 17-year-old Christina. The ex husband was sent to prison but after his release, Harlee framed him for murder to send him back.

Now, this isn’t the story of a perfect woman. But it is the story of a woman who would go to the ends of the earth to protect the ones to loves. She’s become a corrupt cop but she’s done that to keep her and her daughter safe.

The show depicts her constant battle between doing what’s right for her daughter or covering up for the people who’ve saved her from shitty situations. She owes it all Lt. Wozniak for helping her frame her husband and then for getting her out of an FBI arrest. But to what lengths does she go to keep it up? No, not everyone can relate to this exact story. But everyone can relate to choosing to protect your loved ones at all costs, and Harlee Santos is proving that on Shades of Blue.
