19. Traditional femininity is underestimated, so use it to your advantage.

Olenna Tyrell

To play off Olenna’s first lesson, discretion is key. They say that poison is a woman’s weapon, and the implication seems to be that women are too cowardly to gut their foe. But really, poison is more a clever weapon than anything else. I’m not advocating homicide here, but if you’ve gotta kill a king, well, you might as well make sure you don’t get caught. Olenna may not be anyone’s unassuming nana, but she doesn’t have “regicide” stamped across her forehead, either.

How can we apply this to our lives? Well, first of all, “don’t murder anyone” is the official disclaimer here. It should have been an official disclaimer before this moment but just as a refresher, don’t murder anyone.

On a more general note, Olenna Tyrell teaches us to conduct our personal lives with as little drama as possible. She doesn’t want the drama of life to take over her days so she tries to keep it away from her and her family. But that doesn’t mean you have to be a doormat or become complacent—far from it, in fact. You can still fight your battles and stick to your guns. Keep the peace as best you can, but raise hell when necessary.
