11. Bellatrix vs. Hermione

After finding the sword of Gryffindor, snatchers roaming through the Forest of Dean capture Ron, Hermione, and Harry Potter. Since there’s a price on Harry’s head, Hermione casts a spell that bloats his face so he’s unrecognizable. The snatchers take the trio to Malfoy Manor, where Bellatrix pressures Draco to identify Harry Potter. Although he can’t be sure, Bellatrix spots the Sword of Gryffindor and becomes enraged.

Harry and Ron wait downstairs in the dungeon. While down there, they find the other prisoners: Luna Lovegood, Ollivander, and Griphook. Bellatrix hangs onto Hermione a little longer and tortures her. As the audience, we can’t see her using the Cruciatus curse, but Hermione’s chilling screams reverberate through the house. Like, no holds barred, high-pitched shrieks of agony.

When Dobby arrives, he helps all the prisoners escape and we see that Bellatrix carved the word ‘mudblood’ into Hermione’s skin. As we learned in previous films, it’s a derogatory term only used by wizard elitists. As any Harry Potter fan would tell you, not only is Hermione the brightest witch of her age, but Harry and Ron wouldn’t have survived without her.

So, to see her suffer at the hands of a villain like Bellatrix Lestrange… well, it sucks.
