19. He Won an Oscar

There has never been anyone as deserving of an Oscar as Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything. Even the diehard fans of actors who never got nominated took a year off that year because everyone knew that Eddie deserved it.

The movie followed the declining health of Stephen Hawking from his university days through his marriage to now. It showed how he went from an able bodied young man to the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ridden man we all know and cherish today.

And Eddie didn’t just play him, he transformed into the theoretical physicist. Eddie showed us that he wasn’t just Eddie Redmayne dressing up and playing pretend. He was a serious actor who could make you forget that these were stories they were telling, that he wasn’t actually Stephen Hawking. He made us forget that it was even a movie.

He had the ability to transport us back to when Hawking was diagnosed. The movie was fantastic but everyone knew that Eddie was going home with the Oscar. He had to. There was nothing that would ever touch that performance.

And when he won and took the stage, everyone cried from the genuine speech Eddie gave because it was perfect.
