Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered
There is a scene between Margaret and Albert that truly defines their relationship. She is his joy, the daughter who brings him a smile and watching the two of them singing together when King George is starting to succumb to his sickness is very moving.
King George VI (Albert was his real name) is dying from lung cancer but no one is telling him. He just had a lung removed but he is told that he will be fine. It’s clear that he isn’t going to get over it all and he is dying.
So when he is singing with Margaret, it’s heartbreaking. The two love each other so much and it is extremely clear in those final scenes with Albert. He loves his daughters and as the season goes on, you see in flashbacks how much he cares for them both. But Margaret is his joy.
The quote was said later in the season but it is very clear in the set up of Albert and Margaret’s relationship. The two just make each other happy and he always smiles when he’s with her. This song is a beautiful representation of that and gave us a glimpse of their relationship we might not have gotten otherwise.
