The Costumes

The costumes on the ground have to take over for half the budget. They’re that amazing. Obviously the show is set from 1947 on through present day. In the first season, we’re getting from 1947 to somewhere in the mid 1950s.

From the Queen’s coronation dress to her wedding dress, the amount of detail each outfit has is incredible. Every outfit that Elizabeth wears is carefully crafted to fit both the image we have of the Queen as well as giving us a glimpse into the woman we might not know everything about.

Everyone is cast so perfectly in such a strange way. Claire Foy is so amazing as Elizabeth, Smith fantastic as Philip, and everyone in between embodies their characters so perfectly that the costumes only serve to help their work.

“If the costumes are grand enough,” Philip says as he is looking at his uniform in the mirror and though it is him shaming their position in society, it is a wonderful statement on the costumes. It is no joke when people say that the majority of the budget had to have gone to all the costumes in the show (it is the most expensive Netflix series). And we can’t wait for season two to see even more!
