The Queen Mother

The Queen Mother is something else entirely. She can be mean and she can be cruel but she does it all in respect to the crown and what Albert would have wanted. David is rude to her and she struggles to find herself when she’s not the Queen any longer but there is something amazing about the Queen Mother.

When she goes to buy a house in the country and the man is trying to figure out who she is, she doesn’t say a word. She just wants to be Elizabeth for a change and not the Queen Mother or Albert’s wife. She just wanted to buy the house and live away from it all.

Her story in The Crown is exceptionally sad because she loses her husband and then loses whatever duties she once had. All she has to do is be a part of the Royal family and all her responsibilities now lie on Elizabeth and Philip.

She tries to help and it ends up painting her in a bad light at times but it is that last real moment we have of the Queen Mother when she wants to buy the house and get away that makes you feel for her. She lost everything and she just wants to be happy again.
