Intersectional Rosie the Riveter Print

For: The feminist who helps other women

Price: $12 for a 5×7 print, $22 for an 8.5×11 print

Now more than ever, it is imperative for women to help each other right now. In our last election, 53% of white women voted for a demagogue who brags about assaulting women and seeks to limit women’s rights. This is what has hurt me the most. That white women, particularly those who identify as straight and cisgender, are willing to sell themselves and their sisters out in order to hang onto their white privilege.

But as you and the person you will give this gift to both know, feminism that is not intersectional is not feminism. When women of color, LGBT+ women, and women with disabilites are oppressed, we are all oppressed. And that’s why this is one of my favorite items on this list. It reminds us that we are nothing if we are not united.

This simple piece of artwork says so much. Under the words “We can do it!”, a group of women stand in the iconic outfits of Rosie the Riveter. But this piece represents women at all intersections. Black women, Asian women, Muslim women, fat women, trans or gender-nonconforming women, women with disabilities – all are shown here as a united front working for a common goal.

So, if your friend is depressed about the state of the world and needs a statement of hope to wake up to every day, buy this print by artist Tyler Feder. Because you know she’ll be working hard to make this artwork a reality.

She’ll Love It If: She takes intersectionality very seriously; she is an activist who needs some positivity after this trash fire of an election; she is basically Leslie Knope.
