7. Rey’s Jakku Outfit

The heroine of TFA — and its main protagonist — tells us quite a bit just by taking off her scavenger gear. Like Anakin and Luke Skywalker before her, she’s dressed for the desert environment she lives in, and the shapes and palette of her outfit call back to their appearances in TPM and ANH as well. (Even the sleeveless with long arm warmers concept harkens back to Padmé on Mustafar from ROTS.)

However, the evidence for the Rey Skywalker theory piles up even in her hairstyle. Padmé typically sports one bun, Leia most famously has two, and now the third trilogy stars a woman who wears three buns. Coincidence? We think not.

But even as we can see Skywalker-style influences in her clothing, the overall effect tells us that she’s practical, not very wealthy, and a survivor. Rey puts up with a lot throughout TFA, and that’s even before you factor in her lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren. However, she’s dressed for the occasion, though we still don’t know how she doesn’t feel cold on Starkiller Base.

Rey knows how to handle a lot even before she has a lightsaber in her hands. Her second outfit, already discussed, reflects the same evolution we saw for Luke in TESB, too.

Rey might not be a Skywalker, but she certainly dresses like one.
