50 Most Iconic Star Wars Costumes
14. Finn
Finn’s first marked within ten minutes of the movie starting, when a fellow stormtrooper actually gets blood on his helmet. If you hadn’t noticed that this now-marked stormtrooper is special, you get the point as soon as he takes his helmet off and we get to see his face, making him unique among a sea of identically-helmeted troops.
He starts wearing Poe Dameron’s jacket as soon as he can on Jakku, and Poe has a point later on in the movie when he says it suits him. It also covers up what’s left of Finn’s stormtrooper uniform, the black undershirt and pants that he still wears because he has literally nothing else.
Visually, the jacket also links him to Rey, because of its use of a neutral tone to compliment her entire costume. Furthermore, that red stripe you can see actually calls to Poe’s reddish-orange flight suit, which he’s wearing when we see him next.
In other words, not only does the jacket help him create an identity outside of FN-2187, it actually ties him to his fellow protagonists in terms of color. Although there’s no way of knowing what anyone will wear in Episode VIII, we suspect that the neutral-and-red color combinations will continue for Finn, Poe, and Rey.
