18. Han on Hoth

Remember when Leia calls Han a scruffy-looking nerf herder, proceeds to kiss Luke, and then walks out in a huff? You can watch the video above.

“Who’s scruffy-looking?” indeed, Han.

Anyway, in terms of costume chat: Han’s shirt is a lot whiter than it is in his primary ANH outfit. It actually visually ties him more to the environment and to Luke and Leia, and it makes him look like he’s closer to actually being in the Rebellion even while he teases Leia about her not wanting him to leave.

Of course, because he is still also a rogue and a scoundrel and all of that jazz, he still has black on, just a jacket for Hoth as opposed to a vest. The jacket, though, also has more of a military feel to it with its pockets.

In other words, Han knows he needs to leave — he actually runs into a bounty hunter prior to the events of TESB, meaning Jabba’s still on his trail — but his clothes say he wants to stay.

He keeps this outfit on all the way through Bespin, and the shirt stays for his being frozen in carbonite. Notably, this outfit also serves as the primary inspiration for Han’s TFA wear, though he switches in a leather jacket.
