50 Most Iconic Star Wars Costumes
20. Kylo Ren
Ah, yes, the most prominent Darth Vader fanboy of them all, Kylo Ren. We picked this still because it shows the back of his helmet, which has a slightly smaller scale of Darth Vader’s signature silhouette.
Seriously, the whole point of Kylo Ren’s outfit is to make him into Darth Vader 2.0, minus the breathing and with a more proper Sith hood added into the mix. Although he’s a technically Knight of Ren, the entire look screams “new Sith Lord”. In fact, the fabric and cut actually also refers to Darth Maul’s costume, the other well-known Sith apprentice.
However, here’s one key difference: Kylo can take his mask off and not die. He even does about midway through TFA, where he reveals his face to Rey and starts using his natural voice. In short, he’s not the faceless menace that his grandfather was in the original trilogy.
No, our newest villain struggles with the path he’s chosen, enough to shed the face of Kylo Ren and show us what’s left of Ben, someone afraid that he’ll never live up to his ideal, even though he does manage to check off the “kill a family member/spouse” box on the “How to Be Darth Vader List” he probably has stashed somewhere.
