35. Padmé’s Meadow Date Dress

Hey, look who’s decided to do the two-bun hairstyle! This outfit comes from AOTC, when Padmé has retreated to the lake palace on Naboo with Anakin and the romance happens.

She is, in fact, perfectly dressed to go frolicking through a meadow with someone, even if that someone is still wearing black. Padmé fits the environment, which has flowers similar to the ones embroidered on her bodice. She even dresses to match the music playing in the background, which is quite light and dominated by the flute.

The one thing that her look doesn’t really match would be her political discussion with Anakin that happens after they’re done frolicking and are having a picnic. Seriously, go back and listen to it: they actually have a debate about dictatorship, which throws up some major red flags from Anakin.

To bring it back to the hairstyle, though, one has to wonder if evoking Princess Leia, the other female Star Wars politician/senator /royalty, and her most famous hairstyle wasn’t intentional here.

However, it’s just an evocation. Padmé’s “buns” aren’t even buns, and the majority of her hair is loose and down. The politician is still there, but for the most part, we’re seeing Padmé, not Senator Amidala.
