19 Fantastic British Sci-Fi Series You Can Binge Right Now

This series follows the adventures of a group of juvenile offenders assigned to work in a community service center. They’re caught outside during a supernatural electrical storm and subsequently acquire mysterious powers. The five main characters – Kelly, Nathan, Curtis, Alisha, and Simon – each develop distinct gifts tied to their own personalities. One can reverse time, one can become invisible, one becomes telepathic, and another sends people into a sexual frenzy when touched. One even becomes immortal.

 Over the course of their probation, the teens all become friends and have to survive various crises together. They go through everything from managing awful probation officers to keeping their powers secret from the world to possibly becoming something like superheroes together. It’s hard to explain without spoiling, but the story of this group is incredibly satisfying. Not to mention extremely hilarious. Misfits is that rare show that does brain-bending sci-fi and biting, dark humor well together. You’ll end up laughing as much as anything else (even if some of the jokes are pretty off-color.)

Misfits ran for five seasons but went through several significant cast shifts during this time. The cast is generally fantastic across the board and has great chemistry together. But, fair warning: After watching these series you will have a lot of complicated feelings about Ramsey Snow on Game of Thrones. Iwan Rheon played Simon here in Misfits before he went to Westeros, and you might be surprised at how much you won’t hate him here.
