3 OMG Moments from The Walking Dead “The Well”

This episode of The Walking Dead slowed it down in terms of brutality, gore, and violence, but the shock factor was still there.

After an intense premiere, the second episode of this season had a much different vibe to it, and nobody was complaining. If you need a quick recap, you can find that here. “The Well” was entirely focused on Carol and Morgan, and their time spent in The Kingdom- a new community of people we were introduced to. The Kingdom is ruled by King Ezekiel and so far, it’s proving to be a place we can trust. And no, I’m not just saying that because they’re poisoning the pigs they’re giving to the Saviors… Although that does help. Although Morgan is finding some peace here, Carol’s wild soul needs to roam, so we’re not sure how long this new “home” will last.

Here are my top 3 OMG moments of this episode:

1. The Times They Are A Changin’

Let’s talk about Morgan for a minute- the man, who at one time, wouldn’t kill a fly. He’s had such a huge character development over these 6 seasons, and the 7th season proves to take that even further.

After losing his son, and going a little crazy, Morgan picks up Aikido- a form of Japanese martial arts. It specifically means to fight without death. This becomes his new art, his new life. He trained all day long for months to learn how to fight walkers and people without killing them. This became a huge part of this character, and has gotten himself into plenty of bad situations with it. But in the end, it was something that made Morgan… Morgan.

During this episode, Morgan notices a change in himself, as did we. He becomes quick to raise a gun at people- something he had never done in the past. Maybe he’s finally realizing what it means to survive, how people have to change, what sacrifices you need to make. Morgan has made it far in this show (farther than most), but can he keep defending himself with this wooden staff instead of a gun? King Ezekiel seems to think so, as he asks Morgan to start training one of the boys who can’t seem to understand how a machete works. But we’re suspicious about it.

2. Ezekiel, and Shiva, and Carol… Oh my.

Speaking of King Ezekiel, I wasn’t the only one to notice this spark between him and Carol, right? When they first meet, Carol turns on her Stepford wife charm and seemingly wins over the King with it. However, it’s revealed that Ezekiel can see right through her. “Never bull shit a bullshitter,” he tells her. The both are similar in that way- they’ve taken on a role to disguise who they really are. Carol, the badass that she is, takes on a susie homemaker facade, where Ezekiel, just a zookeeper in the pre apocalyptic life, acts like royalty in the pretense of his “Kingdom.” This is where Shiva, Ezekiel’s tiger comes in. Because what King doesn’t have a domestic tiger by its side. He’s fooled everyone by “taming” this tiger, but he just owes that to his zoo keeping experience.

Carol and Ezekiel find common ground between their “bullshitting,” and although we’re not 100% sure some sort of relationship is brewing between the two, it’s clear they are going to have an alliance. And that alliance will probably come in handy down the line, especially when the Saviors get reintroduced.

3. The Kingdom vs. The Saviors

I’ll admit, I was nervous about this place, The Kingdom. Especially when they began rounding up wild pigs and feeding them walker guts. But it turns out, they were doing that because they were giving those pigs to the Saviors. The two groups have issues between one another, and much like Negan did with Rick’s group, he made it clear that he was in charge and they’ll go to extraordinary lengths to reassure that. Now, we’re still not sure if The Kingdom went through the exact thing that Rick’s group did, but it’s clear they don’t like the Saviors. And that makes me happy. I can absolutely see The Kingdom and the people of Alexandria teaming up against Negan in the future. And hopefully that future is soon.

Let’s not forget that Carol and Morgan have no idea what has happened with Rick and the rest of the gang. So that’ll make for an interesting, and incredibly emotional reunion coming up. Will Carol split up from the rest of the group again? Will Ezekiel tempt her to stay at The Kingdom? Will Morgan start using harsher methods of fighting? Will the Saviors find out about the tainted pig meat? How is Rick doing? How are Maggie and Sasha? How much anxiety will I have waiting for Sunday’s episode? Rhetorical question- ALOT.

Of course, we still have plenty of questions, but this is only episode 2. An entire season is ahead of us and the answers we’re anticipating will soon be revealed.
