Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (November 18th)

Synopsis: Seventy years before the events of the Harry Potter series, wizard Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) tracks down a multitude of lost creatures on the streets of New York and meeting a secret cabal of witches and wizards that reside in the city.

I haven’t actually read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but I know a Culturess writer who would kill me if I didn’t include this here (Hey there Rachel!). Fantastic Beasts is the test case for a whole new way to mine, er, lovingly give more to, the Harry Potter universe. Hogwarts fans could take to an entirely new cast of characters living in a new country or not. J.K. Rowling, taking over screenwriting duties for the first time in her career, has immense faith in the burgeoning franchise, announcing – with or without the studio’s knowledge – that five movies are being planned.

That’s enough to give audiences Harry Potter fever for the rest of their lives! Much of that depends on this film’s success, and Harry Potter director David Yates already has a bomb under his belt this year with The Legend of Tarzan. Either way, Harry Potter fans will come out in droves for this, regardless of the franchise’s sustainability overall. Worst case scenario, you get something until they greenlight a Cursed Child adaptation!
