American Horror Story S6E7 Recap: Chapter 7

American Horror Story: Roanoke got bloody tonight. Who lived, and who died? Who probably should have died? Let’s recap Chapter 7.

Warning: this contains spoilers for American Horror Story: Roanoke’s October 26 episode.

We open with some filmed footage of a deer nibbling on some grass, while a spook appears in the background. In the production office, Sid cheers about the fight footage between Matt and Dominic, then blows off concerns about Diana. Outside, there’s a scream. Sid summons the cameraman, and there’s the intern, blood gushing from her throat. Agnes Mary Winstead comes out, in full Butcher drag, and kills both Sid and the cameraman too.

She picks up the camera, murmurs about how she’s a tree and the lightning too, and we cut to the title card.

Inside the house, Audrey looks around for Rory before running downstairs. Matt reiterates that the in murder is for Rory, proving that he may have learned something of symbolism. The real Lee films everything on her phone. They find blood on the floor, but Audrey insists that Rory just left for a better offer in L.A.

Agnes has set up shop with her stolen camera in the cellar, and she wavers between her real voice and that she used for the Butcher. Agnes’ real voice expresses regret, and the Butcher’s justifies the murders. Her torch goes out, and when she gets it relit, she’s surrounded by wooden men hanging from the ceiling.

That’s Not a Knife. This Is a Cleaver.

In the house, Monet starts day-drinking. Lee points out that giving an alcoholic liquor is a poor plan, but no one listens to her. Dominic meets with Shelby in the kitchen. She’s not having it, then Matt walks in and says he doesn’t care what they do together. Dominic goes to the diary room, confessing that he’s recording with a body cam for ratings, meaning we’ll have yet another source of awkward shots.

Shelby goes upstairs to have a good cry over her very ruined marriage. On the bed, she discovers a bloody camera, and Agnes walks in, cleaver at the ready.  They have a chat, but Shelby manages to film her even as blood spurts out of her neck. In comes Dominic to the rescue! He puts her head through a window, but while he tends to Shelby, Agnes disappears.

Audrey attempts to tend to Shelby while Matt and Dominic snipe at each other. Dominic goes to the camera to yell at Sidney, but the phone lines are cut. They can’t call for an ambulance. Matt proposes they go and find the production trailer. Monet and Lee will go, using Lee’s gun as protection. Audrey goes with them down into the tunnels beneath the house, when the figure appears.

No one thinks it a bad idea to walk away from the figure in the tunnel. Audrey suspects it to be Rory, but even though Lee shoots the figure, it doesn’t drop. Guess we just met the real Edward Mott! After they escape, Lee takes a minute to tell the actresses that they’d best start believing in ghosts and the blood moon now.

Upstairs, Shelby and Matt attempt to repair their relationship. It does not seem to go well.

Bang, Bang

In the woods, everyone spots the blood moon. They do find the production trailer, and they find dead bodies! Audrey proceeds to lose everything, saying that she’s not accustomed to carnage. Unfortunately, there’re no phones to be had. Agnes comes running out of the woods, and Lee shoots her down.

The trio spots people with torches going through the woods, which means that the blood moon has taken effect. Everyone keeps filming for some reason. Audrey records a confessional with blood dripping down on her, and when they look up, Rory’s corpse is strung up!

Naturally, Audrey continues to lose it. Lee continues filming, and when Monet puts her camera up, they see two people with lights approaching. It’s the Polks.

Down in the cellar, Agnes cauterizes some pliers and pulls the bullet out. In bed with Shelby, Matt suddenly gets up, looking like he’s sleepwalking. Dominic follows him down to the basement, and films the Witch grabbing Matt.

Dominic makes the brilliant decision of going to wake Shelby. Shelby goes downstairs and gives the Witch a good whack, but Matt insists he’s in love with the Witch. Shelby then gives Matt multiple whacks.

To the head. That puts this episode’s body count at four.

Hold On to Your Body Parts

As the Polks strap Lee into a chair in their weed-growing lab, she wisely asks how this is being filmed. In walks Mama Polk. They start rubbing seasoning into her bare leg, and then Mama sticks a meat fork in.

Back in the house, Shelby immediately regrets the decision to whack Matt in the head, while Dominic tries to calm her down. He points out that she has to confess because, well, everything has been filmed. Outside, Agnes waits.

Two of the other Polks have Audrey and Monet. Mama drops off a bloody platter, and though the girls initially refuse to eat, it’s eat or get shocked. Both start eating.

Standing outside the house, Agnes starts in on a Butcher speech, with the real Roanoke colonists approaching. Shelby somberly says that they cannot stop any of the invaders coming towards the house.

Then, the real Butcher arrives. Agnes drops to her knees. Thomasyn has no patience for this sort of thing and wordlessly puts a cleaver through her imitator’s head.
