Skip Bayless: Jessica Simpson Is The Reason For Tony Romo’s Football Woes

Fox Sports One commentator, Skip Bayless suggested Jessica Simpson “tumultuous” relationship with Tony Romo is the reason for his declining performance.

If you do not know who Skip Bayless is, count yourself lucky. Skip Bayless has carved himself a reputation by saying inflammatory and making sweeping suggestions about people in sports and entertainment.

He started this when he was on ESPN’s First Take and has now brought his firebrand of trolling over to Fox Sports One Undisputed. Last week Skip Bayless asserted that Jessica Simpson is the reason for Tony Romo’s performance issues on the football field. Simpson dated the famous Dallas Cowboys Quarterback, Tony Romo in 2007-2009.

"“I was very down on Tony Romo for his tumultuous relationship with Jessica Simpson. Witch I felt like was affecting his ability to focus dedicating himself to the process of playing quarterback.”“Tony started to play better after he broke up with Jessica.”"

First, I would like to say that Bayless has no idea what was going on with Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson’s relationship. The only thing Bayless knows is what he has gleaned from grocery store tabloids. He is a glorified Mrs. Kravitz from Bewitched of the sports world. Unfortunately, Bayless’ job in the media provides him with a level of clout and people take what he says as gospel rather than opinion and gossip.

Second, Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson’s relationship dissolved seven years ago. They have both moved on and have since married other people. They also have children with their respected spouses. Just by going on Bayless litmus test of who to place the blame should we blame Tony Romo’s current wife to blame her for him getting hurt every year?  Of course not. Then why is it fine for Bayless to blame Jessica Simpson and have her name tarnished for something she has no control?

Lastly, To put the blame on Simpson for the decline of Romo’s football career is unfair and untrue. Tony Romo is not Samson, and Jessica Simpson is not Delilah. She did not take his “super” football powers by falling in love and dating him. She did not screw him into sucking at football. The fact is an NFL quarterback has a very short shelf life if you can not stay healthy physically and mentally. On the flip side, Jessica Simpson’s career has flourished since the breakup, but you do not see anyone thanking Romo for that. Why is that? It is because her accomplishments are her own and not a catalyst from a breakup from years ago.

We need to let Skip Bayless know we are not here for his misogynistic opinions. Let us stop putting the blame on women when things are going well for a man. Let them own up to their shortfalls and this world would be better for all of us.
