26. Birthday Parties Gilmore Style

Season 1, Episode 6 “Rory’s Birthday Parties” & Season 3, Episode 18 “Happy Birthday, Baby”

Birthdays are a big deal in the Gilmore household. And usually in the entire town of Stars Hollow too because everyone comes out to celebrate. We see the Gilmore girls ring in few birthdays throughout the years, but perhaps none is as memorable as Lorelai’s giant pizza.

Rory wants to do something nice for her mom. Lorelai is stressed (more than usual) because of the fire at the Independence Inn and finding a place for all the displaced guests to stay. Rory decides to throw her a Stars Hollow birthday bash complete with favors, music, and the world’s largest pizza. Which once Kirk (Sean Gunn) gets involved becomes sort of problematic. And while it ends up not actually being the world’s largest or even the tri-counties largest, it’s still a really big pizza and Lorelai still loves it.

Both Rory and Lorelai love to throw each other elaborate parties. Later, when Rory starts dating Logan (Matt Czuchry), she throws him a London themed graduation party. It is just the kind of people they are. Birthdays are a great way to celebrate the people in your life and show them how much you care. Which is Rory’s case makes her the world’s best (or hardest trying) daughter.
