17. Shane Shoots Otis

The moment we all knew Shane was going to be trouble. Otis, the ranch hand for Hershel’s farm, offers to go on a supply run to a local high school with Shane to retrieve medical supplies for Carl’s injury:

"“I ain’t gonna sit here while this fella takes this on alone.“"

Give, Otis did cause the injury to Carl that needed the medical supplies. But still, he was a good man who was trying to help everyone.

The school has been overrun with walkers. They try to lure the walkers away but get trapped in a trailer. Eventually, they make a break for it, running to the truck with plenty of obstacles in the way. Shane gets weary and falls down while he’s running from the horde of walkers. Otis won’t go on without him though. He helps Shane up and pushes him forward.

Here’s the kicker. Shane realizes that they horde is getting closer and thinks the only way to save himself is to shoot Otis, and leave his body for the walkers. So, he does. Queue the demise of Shane. Shane was a pretty obnoxious character before this, but killing Otis revealed he wasn’t just obnoxious- he was evil and capable of terrible things.
