46. Amy’s Death
This was a moment when viewers and characters, alike, both realized that nothing and nobody would be safe in the world of The Walking Dead. Amy (Emma Bell) was a character we knew little about, but meant a lot to Andrea (Laurie Holden), who then quickly worked up her ranks within the group after her sisters death.
Andrea and Amy had nobody left but each other. Both of their parents had died, and although they had a rough childhood with one another, they grew closer as they got older. Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) saved the two during the initial outbreak and they found a camp of survivors to settle into. These three became a family and Dale was a father figure to the two girls- something they had lacked for awhile.
The death changed a lot of these characters, but especially Andrea and Dale. Andrea then, had to put Amy down once she changed, and Andrea’s character development grew heavily after this moment with her sister.
Along with the group, the viewers are still trying to grasp the brutality of the world at this point, and this death showed just how vulnerable everybody actually is. If you make one wrong move, you’re a goner, and that’s crucial to understand in this show.
