29. Tyreese Dies

This was another heart breaking one. Tyreese was one of those characters that was just good. He was a good person. He always had the best interest of others in mind. His relationship with the people of the group was real, unlike most relationships in this apocalyptic world. But this just proves even the good aren’t safe here.

Tyreese came into the show later than most but was a critical character. His dynamic with Carol was important. It showed that forgiveness was still possible in a world full of death and dying. And that’s an important thing to do. Not just to forgive, but that his death meant something to these people. Chad L. Coleman spoke to Variety about this character loss:

"“But our deaths mean something, you get real traction out of our deaths. These are beloved people because of what they stand for. We need to see the world without them to see what the other people are going to do.”"

As sad as him dying was, the scene was what really affected most viewers. He begins seeing all the people who have been lost. He starts hearing things. He loses his will to fight. He gives up.
