8. The OGs

If you have been following Hamilton since the very beginning you feel as if you are friends with the original cast. (At least I’m pretty sure it’s not just me who feels that way.) For awhile it seemed like not a day went by without an Instagram backstage shot, a dubsmash video, or an excited tweet (well those still exist). Now that the majority of the OG cast is gone or are in the process of leaving only this documentary remains of that glorious time. It is mostly just nice to see the gang all back together again.

The documentary also serves as an in depth look into these actors and what it took to create characters,”who are defined by what they did” in history as Stephen Sondheim says. These people are thoughtful in their portrayals. They have done their research and invested the time. Their care shows in all aspects and seeing their passion just makes it easier to love them.

“You got 20,000 people right outside your door,” says Jackson and he means continental soldiers outside waiting for Washington, but he could’ve easily been talking about a #Ham4Ham show outside the Richard Rogers Theater. They empathize with their characters because like the men and women they play they are forever a part of history now.
