#3: Sister Tears
Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy (!!) are perhaps the most important singing sisters since the Sandersons. From the minute we’re introduced to them, we know they’re not just simple, petticoat-wearing, submissive stereotypes. They’re incredibly fierce, surprisingly empowered, and fully irresistible, not just to seemingly every man who lays eyes upon them, but to us, too. And almost immediately, one of the most intriguing things about these women isn’t their social status or their ability to belt in harmony for days, but their sisterly bond.
As the show progresses and we get to know more about The Schuyler Sisters, it becomes clear that despite Angelica’s devotion to the pursuit of knowledge and fulfillment, and Eliza’s dedication to her husband, the sisters’ commitment to each other remains unflappable. Angelica’s declaration that “I love my sister more than anything in this life/ I will choose her happiness over mine every time” and Eliza’s own confirmation that “when I needed her most, she was right on time” are enough to melt me into a salty tear-puddle on any given morning commute. Mandatory listening for anyone who has, loves, or even knows a sister. Unless you’re the Peggy. Then I’m just sorry. (JK. #NotAllPeggys).
