#10: “I’m So Good At Yoga”

This is a song everyone with even a sliver of a jealous bone in their body can relate to. And though the circumstances may be a bit different for each of us, the way we idealize and project overblown perfection onto an intimidating new friend is totally universal. In Rebecca’s case, the circumstances couldn’t be less in her favor. After meeting Josh’s ridiculously hot and seemingly flawless girlfriend while wearing ratty pajamas in a grocery store, Rebecca wriggles her way into Valencia’s life. Rebecca soon finds out Valencia is a yoga instructor (because of course she is) and immediately decides she must take one of her classes (because of course she does). And from our super-clear objective vantage point, it’s apparent there’s no way this is gonna end well for Rebecca. Of course, her low self-esteem gets the best of her and takes the form of an imagined musical number in which Valencia flaunts her killer body, shows off her superior skills, and, at least in Rebecca’s mind, actually lives up to the impossible standards expected of women. The explicit version below is so relatable, it’ll make you laugh out loud while still reminding you how insane it is to compare yourself to other women- a rarity in mainstream TV that adds to the dynamic that makes the entire show so endearing.

Lyric highlight:

Chorus: “Look at her, look at her!”
Valencia: “I’m not afraid of clowns and trains!”
Chorus: “Look at her, look at her!”
Valencia: “My father didn’t leave me!”
