17. Red Velvet
Like Got7, Red Velvet is a relatively young group. They also debuted in 2014, although they’re represented by SM Entertainment, another of the three major music labels.
Before you start thinking that they’re talking about cake, let’s dispel that fiction. “Red” refers to their pop-oriented music, with “velvet” describing a more mature sound that they also show off. That same interview also details their massive success, including multiple shows in the United States, an album topping the Billboard World Charts, and their debut videos earning millions of views each.
Before you start checking out earlier videos, yes, Red Velvet started out as a foursome before adding a fifth member last year. Your eyes, therefore, are not playing tricks on you. (Though you may still suspect that that’s the case, since many of Red Velvet’s videos are described as very bright, to put it mildly.)
Speaking of earlier videos, Rolling Stone actually named “Dumb Dumb” one of its best videos of 2015, praising the aesthetics above all else. Be warned, though: “Dumb Dumb” can and will stick in your head.
Aside from “Russian Roulette” and “Dumb Dumb”, check out “Happiness,” one of their debut tracks; and “Ice Cream Cake“, which anchored their first mini album.
