18. Got7

Got7, also presented as GOT7, is literally read as “got-seven”. Makes sense, thankfully.

This group is actually quite new: they debuted just two years ago in 2014 under JYP Entertainment. However, they received the “Best New Artist” award in 2015 from the Golden Disk Awards, roughly analogous to the Grammy Awards, and they haven’t looked back since.

Got7 specializes in hip-hop-influenced sounds within the realm of K-pop, meaning that like the above track, “Hard Carry,” you’ll hear raps, with snatches of English thrown in, counterpointed with sung portions.

This year, they’ve released both Flight Log: Departure, an EP, as well as Flight Log: Turbulence. Unsurprisingly, a song called “Fly” accompanied Departure. “Fly” does feature a more dance-oriented track, however. (In other words, it’s hard to pin groups to just one genre, since concepts change from album to album.)

This group is the first example on this list of a big group, loosely defined here as meaning “has more than five members”. As to be expected from the group’s name, Got7 has 7 members, which does make shooting wide shots a little tough, one supposes.

Aside from “Fly” and “Hard Carry”, songs to check out include “If You Do“, which has over 50 million views on YouTube; and “A“, a song from their first year, 2014.
