Trystane Martell, Doran Martell, and Areo Hotah
Like his betrothed, Trystane wasn’t long for the world. The Dorne plot was seemingly so unsalvageable that it was better to kill off the Martells entirely. Two of the Sand Snakes, Obara and Nymeria, disposed of their cousin like he was yesterday’s trash. And just as he was painting funeral stones to mourn Myrcella, too. These broads have no class.
Meanwhile, Areo Hotah and Doran Martell meet their end by Tyene and Ellaria. Despite his reputation as a fierce guard, Areo Hotah sure went down quickly. But hey, however we moved on from the failed Dornish plot would have to do. Now, perhaps, this particular kingdom will have more to do than aggravate viewers with its utter nonsense. It did, at least, offer up some gorgeous scenery.
On my end, I must confess that I was surprised at Trystane’s death. From the moment he appeared onscreen, I suspected he had a larger role to play within the narrative. There was something about him I didn’t quite trust and I assumed that would play out. As it happens, you can’t get up to much trouble once a spear’s been shoved through your head. So no points to me on that one. I suppose I was just trying to make Dorne interesting.
