Coven: The Strangeness of Queenie’s Story

Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) is a witch who has the blood of both the Salem witches and a voodoo tribe in her. She is a real life voodoo doll, meaning whatever pain she inflicts upon herself can inside be inflicted on whomever she chooses.

Her power got Queenie fired from her job in fast food because she got mad at a customer and then burned his hand in a deep fryer. But it’s Queenie’s whole storyline that has us confused and shocked. To sum it up in a small sentence, she has the famed racist Delphine LaLaurie as her personal slave and then she ends up being nearly killed by a minotaur’s penis.

The strangest thing about her story is that she offers herself sexually to a minotaur saying that they are both creatures who need love. And then it almost kills her. It’s absolutely bonkers and also incredibly disturbing and terrifying.

Even more shocking is that Queenie comes back in Hotel. Well, she comes back to die anyway. She goes to Los Angeles and ends up staying at the Hotel Cortez. There, she tries to escape James March but can’t because she can’t perform voodoo on a ghost and it ends up killing Queenie.
