Coven: Zoe’s Witching Abilities

One of the cool devices the premiere episode of Coven had was the reveal of each of the witches powers. Madison could control things with her mind, Queenie was a human voodoo doll and then, there was Zoe.

Her power was the absolute worst. She discovered hers when she tried to lose her virginity. She had sex with her then boyfriend and ended up killing him with her sex. Disturbing, terrible, and absolutely the worst thing to get in the ‘I’m a witch with superpowers’ lottery, right?

Well, watching her use those powers to rape and kill the man who raped Madison and was the cause of multiple men from his frat was incredibly disturbing. American Horror  Story has never shied away from the dark nature that comes along with a storyline of sexual violence.

Normally, it’s very forthcoming and real about the victims and their coping in a strange way. Lana Winters dealt with it in her own fashion as does Madison, but this was just horrifying to watch. Yes, it’s meant to show that Zoe was giving him what she thought he deserved but it says more about her character that it does the douchebag frat boy who we know nothing about.
