Add More Pop! to Your Collection with New Harry Potter Funkos

The popular Funko Pop! toys are rolling out a new line of Harry Potter figures. These upcoming arrivals will be concentrated on Order of the Phoenix.

J.K. Rowling’s team of retail wizards is really pulling out all the stops with the flood of Harry Potter material and merch that’s been coming our way recently. From Pottermore quizzes to new and improved e-books, fans are experiencing Pottermania all over again. Not to mention, the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film has opened a whole new door to Rowling’s intricate universe. New characters, new wands, and a whole lot more Hufflepuff (protagonist Newt Scamander’s Hogwarts house).

But the newest merchandise drop doesn’t come from 1920s New York. Rather, Funko Pop! is taking fans back to basics with their new wave of figurines, which are all inspired by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Let’s take a look.

1. Harry Potter

First up is the man himself. Funko Pop! has released quite a few renditions of the Boy Who Lived, all of which seem to capitalize on his pivotal moments. In this case, Harry is dolled up in his OOTP movie wardrobe and clutching the prophecy that caused pretty much all his problems.

His stance and slightly furrowed brow indicate that he means business. And if we remember anything from Order of the Phoenix, it’s that Harry was indeed done messin’ around.

2. George Weasley

Next up is one half of Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, George. Where is Fred, you ask? I can’t say. He’s not included in any images, but according to the Pop Price Guide, he’s simply “not pictured.” That doesn’t mean he isn’t included in the new line. But if this is some sort of commentary on Fred’s eventual death, I can tell you that I do not agree with it. The emotional trauma is taxing enough as it is.

For now, we can guess that when Fred is released, there will be some tweaks in order to differentiate the twins. Since they’re identical, these changes will likely have to do with their props. Since the twins launched their joke shop in OOTP, there are definitely enough props to choose from.

Perhaps we’ll eventually see Gred and Forge with the requisite “F” and “G” Weasley sweaters. That would certainly do the trick.

3. Minerva McGonagall

The notorious Momma McG in all her glory! We can only hope that this Funko Pop! does Maggie Smith proud; she deserves nothing less.

This is the first McGonagall we’ve seen in the Potter Pop! collections. As is the norm with such first waves, this figure has a simple design. No fuss, no muss–very much like McGonagall herself. Unless you mistreat her students, of course. Then it’s muss all the way, as McGonagall lives up to her Gryffindor character and goes full lioness.

Ah, Minnie. What did we do to deserve you?

4. Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody

However his reputation may have suffered over the years due to his increased paranoia, Moody remained an esteemed Auror. After all, you can hardly blame the man. His life’s work was in tracking and fighting Dark wizards. He was around for the First and Second Wizarding Wars, the latter of which would spell his doom early on.

Bottom line: The guy saw some things. Easy enough when you’ve got that magical eye action. I wonder if the Funko’s moves? Probably not, but that’s not to say we’ll never see a special edition one that does.

5. Dolores Umbridge

Good ol’ Dolores Jane. This Funko Pop! is the perfect accessory to any firecracker.

Was that too harsh? My bad. But in all fairness, the woman did teach me that “I must not tell lies,” so I figured that applied here as well.

(In all seriousness, though, don’t pop your Pop!s. Umbridge might be a wily wretch of a woman, but don’t take it out on the toy. Sending her sky-high on the back of a firework likely isn’t particularly safe, poetic justice notwithstanding.)

6. Lucius Malfoy

Jason Isaacs’ patented look of disdain is matched perfectly to this Funko figurine. Nailed it.

Mr. Malfoy plays a pivotal role throughout the Harry Potter series, but we see him at perhaps his nastiest in Order of the Phoenix. Before, he was a sneering, snobby blood purist to be sure. But the return of Voldemort threw Malfoy into the thick of things, and thus we really see him in action.

In OOTP, the wider Wizarding world remains unaware of Voldemort’s resurrection. And so the Malfoys keep up their charade as financial assets and fine people. Malfoy has a lot to lose during the fifth installment, but for the most part he keeps right on gaining. Until Harry and his friends snatch the prophecy from under his nose, that is. That sure wiped that superbly smarmy look off Isaacs’ face. It was, after all, a very “And I would’ve gotten away with it, too–if it hadn’t been for you meddling kids!” moment.

7. Bellatrix Lestrange

Last but I’d never dare say least, we have Bellatrix Lestrange. This particular design is a Hot Topic exclusive, so don’t expect to see her elsewhere unless she’s being resold on Amazon or eBay.

Bellatrix is a calmer, cooler Funko Pop! than she is a human. We can only be grateful for that. A gaping and/or screaming mouth on a Funko would be nothing short of terrifying. The redness around the eyes, however, is a nice touch.

That does it for the new round of Potter Pop! dolls. With these releases, it’s likely that others are due to arrive in the future. There’s plenty more characters where these came from, and I for one am dying to know what a little Nymphadora Tonks would look like. Since she’s a Metamorphmagus, Funko would do well to sell her in a Mr. Potato head style. But only time will tell. For now, we’ll enjoy what we’ve been given.
