Panicked Doctor Links “Low T” to supporting Hillary, We Collectively Roll Our Eyes

A physician ran a radio ad linking low testosterone with support for Clinton. He says it was a joke, but even a lame joke can highlight real-world sexism.

Dr. Dareld Morris, of Morris Medical and Weight Loss Center in Fort Myers, Florida, wanted to make a joke. Like many jokes made by your right-leaning uncle with too much money, it fell flat. It was, of course, about Hillary Clinton.

The ad, run on a local radio station, said “Most are not aware of the effect low T can have on your mental state. For instance your ability to focus and think clearly. As a community service, for any guys out there that are thinking of voting for Hillary, I want to offer you a free testosterone test”.

Boy howdy, is it convenient that the same doctor who pointed out the issue can help you with your (probably) made-up problem.

Morris also wants to see if there is a correlation between an individual’s health and their political views. He views the ad as something of an experiment. We will be sure to read his conclusions when it comes out in the next peer-reviewed medical journal.

“Low T” therapy, by the way, is something of an issue itself. Men who produce testosterone on their own typically experience a natural decrease in hormone levels as they age. Lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and illness can also affect these levels. Lower levels of this hormone can cause depression, decreased energy, lower sex drive and a decrease in muscle mass. Risks associated with testosterone replacement therapy include potentially higher chances of stroke, heart attacks, and cancer.

In short, the concept of “low T” and how to treat it (or if it should be treated at all) is mildly controversial. More often than not, ads for treatment centers focus on traditional masculinity – muscles, energy, sex drive and so on. It is less often about a significant medical problem, and more about the fear of aging and losing one’s status and virility.

Perhaps the more pressing issue, however, is the sexism in this ad. Yes, we get it, Morris was joking. But jokes don’t just come from an objective, politically neutral ether. This one certainly doesn’t.

Morris’s ad outright states that men who support Hillary Clinton must be ill, somehow, or mentally defective. Only weak men suffering from “low T” could betray the patriarchy in such a way, it argues. Come on down to friendly Dr. Morris, and we’ll get you up and voting for Trump in no time. Truly, no real man would want to see a woman become President, or would agree with her political platform.

We can only wait to see what other “hilarious” political stunts will come out of Hillary’s rising poll numbers and the subsequent patriarchal panic.

Morris, meanwhile, wants to clarify that he is voting for Trump. We’re positively stunned.
