5. Star Wars

The Star Wars films are already known as a space opera, why not just make it official and add music? It’s actually not that outlandish of an idea because it was considered by George Lucas in 1999. There are even a few songs written if you really want to listen, including an amazing number called “Han’s Your Man”.  I’m serious. This should be more than just an idea though, this play needs become a reality.

There are a number of ways to do a Star Wars musical. There could be a play per film or a giant one combining highlights from the entire series (or just the originals if you still want to forget the prequels). There could be a flirty denying-their-love-for-each-other duet between Han and Leia called, “I’d Just as Soon Kiss a Wookie”. A villain stealing the show song called, “The Power of the Darkside.” A song sung by Yoda called “There is No Try” sung in his weird Yoda speak.

Lighting could be used to great effect in a Star Wars musical to represent battling spaceships and blaster explosions. The best part of a stage play though would be the lightsaber battles with acrobatic actors twirling around the stage wielding their weapons in a dance between the dark and the light.
