15 Movies We Would Like to See on Broadway

With the recent announcements that Moulin Rouge and Kiki’s Delivery Service are coming to the stage, we count down 15 other films we would like to see turned into Broadway Musicals.

Everything seems to be an adaptation or a remake lately. Whether it is from book to movie or comic book to TV show or an old movie now just with females, they are everywhere. The craze has taken over Broadway too. This month, it was announced that Baz Luhrman’s movie musical about star crossed lovers, Moulin Rouge! was set to be adapted for the stage. The same treatment is also being given to the beloved animated Hayao Miyazaki film, Kiki’s Delivery Service. Even the animated Twentieth Century Fox film Anastasia is getting in on the action with a play set to debut on Broadway this spring.

This is not a new phenomenon, Disney has been adapting their films to the Great White Way forever and many great hits such as Hairspray and Little Shop of Horrors were movies first.  There have been some obvious choices (like School of Rock), surprises like (Heathers: The Musical), and films you wouldn’t have thought of, but now that you know they exist in play form you couldn’t see them any other way (like Waitress: The Musical). Since the trend seems to be so popular, we thought of 15 films we believe would make the next great Broadway smash.
