21. Dark Disciple

We start off with this canon novel from author Christie Golden, published last year. Dark Disciple stars Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos, otherwise known as a former Sith apprentice and a maverick Jedi who doesn’t always do well with the rules.

Their mission? Assassinate former Jedi and now Sith Lord Count Dooku, as Dooku has committed a war crime by destroying a refugee ship during the Clone Wars. Before you think that Vos has gone off on his own to do this, think again. In the novel, Mace Windu proposes the idea, and Obi-Wan Kenobi suggests Vos for the mission.

Dark Disciple originally took shape as 8 episodes of The Clone Wars. However, since the show got cancelled, the episodes were never produced. Golden used the scripts and the animatics for the first 4 episodes as the basis for her novel.

Though it does take its nods from The Clone Wars, Dark Disciple is by no means a novel for children. After all, to defeat Dooku, Vos and Ventress may very well need the power of the Dark Side…and each other.

Goodreads praises Golden’s characterizations in particular.

Basically, if you love Asajj Ventress, this will be the book for you.
