7. Lost Stars

Lost Stars came about as a part of the “Journey to The Force Awakens” campaign, a group of books meant to introduce some of the new book canon works. Claudia Gray’s Lost Stars may very well be the best book in the collection. (Spoilers: Aftermath does not appear on this list. There’s a reason for that.)

Though it says it’s a YA book, and it does deal with a romance at its heart, adult readers can easily enjoy this tale beginning during the first years of the Empire and spanning all the way to the Battle of Jakku. On the recently-annexed-Jelucan, two children meet and go off on an adventure to see the Imperial ships. That kicks off a love story that sees its main characters, Thane and Ciena, put on opposite sides of the Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire.

One review on Goodreads mentions that the book basically came out of nowhere with a high-quality story primarily focusing on characters that don’t have familiar surnames. That’s accurate.

If you don’t like romance, you may be turned off by this one. Use this to go back for a rewatch of The Original Trilogy and The Force Awakens, or just read it when you need some romance with your Star Wars.
