10. The Truce at Bakura

Some books ignore the immediate aftermath of each of the films. The Truce at Bakura from Kathy Tyers does not do that. (However, it also happens to now be part of the Legends universe.)

Instead, it actually features Luke still recovering from those Force lightning strikes from Palpatine at the end of Return of the Jedi, and Leia wrestling with the fact that she happens to be Darth Vader’s daughter.

There’s no time for rest, though. The Rebel Alliance heads to an Imperial outpost at Bakura, not far from the limits of the known galaxy. The two factions must unite against a common enemy: the Ssi-ruuk, aliens from unknown space who seek nothing less than total domination via brainwashing.

Oh, for bonus points, it also features some more of Han and Leia getting together and developing their relationship.

Goodreads reviews note that the book does well in its political scenes and the negotiations between the Empire and the Alliance. Many reviews also say it does well with dealing with that aftermath.

As it is a Legends book, you can read it whenever, though it does stand alone. In terms of continuing things, you can read this ahead of The Courtship of Princess Leia to continue the story of Han and Leia getting together in the Legends universe.
