Luke Cage is the newest show created by Netflix and Marvel. Here is why we’re excited to see it.

Marvel and Netflix’s team ups have made them as unstoppable as the Avengers.  In 2015 they introduced us to blind lawyer turned vigilante Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) in Daredevil and abuse survivor and private investigator Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) in the show of the same name. Now they are bringing the man with unbreakable skin, Luke Cage to the small screen. We first met Mike Colter’s Luke in Jessica Jones as the bartender who spent some *ahem* memorable time with Jessica before finding out how his wife really died and getting controlled by Kilgrave (David Tennant). (He had a pretty rough time on that show.)

Now Luke has a show of his own, on his own turf, which promises to be different from anything we’ve seen before. Cheo Hodari Coker, known for his work on Ray Donovan and Southland, developed Luke Cage for television and al wrote the first episode. He has already promised the show will be, “The Wire of Marvel Television…with a 90’s hip-hop vibe.” Combine this different political and musical environment with the show’s new setting of Harlem rather than Hell’s Kitchen and we are in for so much more than just a superhero show.  We can’t wait to see what else Luke Cage has in store for us, but here are the things we are excited about for sure.
