3. The Tarts and Vicars Party
A character trait that Darcy has very much because of his namesake is that he does not tell Bridget important details. Like Wickham and Darcy and their muddled past, Darcy and Daniel have a history.
Bridget is told Daniel’s lie and she believes him so she holds a grudge against Darcy. When she makes a snide remark about him, rather than correcting her or asking her about what she means, Darcy walks away.
Throughout most of the film series, it’s his way of dealing with conflict with Bridget. It makes him frustrating but also endearing because he lets Bridget see him as she wants. Mark Darcy always makes sure that she comes to her own conclusion about what kind of man he is rather than forcing his own vision on her. Granted, the vision she has of him is warped because of Daniel but still, he lets her decide.
It’s the weird chivalry that he holds to that makes him appealing in a lot of ways. Much like Darcy in the Austen world, he doesn’t want Bridget to be influenced by him. Mark holds her above his own name, in a way and it makes us love him even more.
